New commercial truck safety regulations stalled by President Trump executive order

Bloomberg reports that some new safety regulations intended to reduce highway fatalities have been delayed by one of President Trump’s executive orders. One regulation mandates the placement of speed limiters on semis. President Trump issued the “Presidential Executive Order on Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs” shortly after taking office in January, and it requires the Department of Transportation to cut at least two other rules before it can implement the new safety regulation in order to save money. The numbers of pedestrian injuries and deaths have been steadily rising each year, and despite many efforts to educate drivers on safety, these numbers are expected to continue climbing for the foreseeable future.
